AbraSol

Cherry, Veneer, Warm LED, 3D Printed PLA

Abrasol is a dynamic lighting project that explores the emotional connection between light, home, and memory. The concept emerged from the intention to create a warm and familiar atmosphere—one that evokes comfort, intimacy, and a sense of belonging. The project reflects on how lighting can influence the way we experience a space, transforming it into something personal and grounding.

Inspired by the idea of carrying a sense of home wherever we go, Abrasol combines soft illumination with tactile materials that diffuse light gently into the surrounding environment. Its design incorporates 3D-printed PLA components and uses a movable mechanism that allows the user to open or close parts of the lamp, dynamically modifying the intensity and direction of the light.

The piece was realized through a combination of fabrication techniques, including laser cutting, 3D printing, veneer laminating, and soldering, ensuring that both the structure and the electronics work seamlessly together.

Through its form, materiality, and interactive glow, Abrasol encourages moments of pause and reflection, highlighting the emotional role that lighting can play in shaping our daily environments. Ultimately, it investigates how light can move beyond function to become a medium for memory, comfort, and connection.
